Some of the
finest pheasant hunting in the world is found in the
southwestern part of the State of South Dakota. The
LaCreek
Wildlife Refuge is
located in Bennett County near the Town of Martin,
South Dakota on Rt.#18 between Mission and Pine Ridge,
South Dakota. The bunkhouse is located 1/4 mile
northwest of
The LaCreek Wildlife Refuge
(click to see refuge map within the link). Martin is the home to the largest
population of Trumpeter Swans as well as a wide variety of
other wildlife including ducks, geese, sharptail grouse,
turkey, dove and of course South Dakota's State Bird - The
Pheasant. The entire LaCreek area, also supports an abundance
of deer, elk and mountain lion. It should be noted that this
is one of the few areas where whitetail and mule deer coexist
in the same habitat.
The hunting operation, owned by Tom Loomis was started in 1979
and has been host to many satisfied hunters with one group
going on its 15th year of pheasant hunting at the Pheasant
Tales
Ranch & Bunkhouse. With over 80,000 acres of public hunting
ground there are many days when you will never see another
hunter! For more
information you are welcome to call (605) - 685-6900 or if that
number is not available (239) - 472-6170. |
